    Thermally conducting electron transfer polymers

    Get PDF
New polymeric material exhibits excellent physical shock protection, high electrical resistance, and thermal conductivity. It is especially useful for electronic circuitry, such as subminiaturization of components and modular construction of circuits

Improved thermally conducting electron transfer polymers

    Get PDF
Development of polymers with improved heat transfer coefficients for use in encapsulating electronic modules is discussed. Chemical reactions for synthesizing the polymers are described and thermodynamic and physical properties are analyzed

Tables for correcting airfoil data obtained in the Langley 0.3-meter transonic cryogenic tunnel for sidewall boundary-layer effects

    Get PDF
Tables for correcting airfoil data taken in the Langley 0.3-meter Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel for the presence of sidewall boundary layer are presented. The corrected Mach number and the correction factor are minutely altered by a 20 percent change in the boundary layer virtual origin distance. The sidewall boundary layer displacement thicknesses measured for perforated sidewall inserts and without boundary layer removal agree with the values calculated for solid sidewalls

Beyond and beneath the hierarchical market economy: global production and working-class conflict in Argentina's automobile industry

    Get PDF
This paper argues that the hierarchical market economy (HME) category does not provide an adequate starting point for addressing capitalist diversity in Latin America. Building from a critical perspective on the global commodity chain (GCC) and global production network (GPN) approaches, it instead considers the impact of firms’ transnational relations and the often neglected role of working-class struggles. It will argue that capitalist diversity can only be understood at the nexus of these ostensibly global and local phenomena; and by specifying the strategic decisions taken by firms in Argentina’s automobile industry, it will account for the failure of that sector. Finally, it examines the role of working-class struggles in the industry in Córdoba, Argentina, arguing that these were vital in shaping the specific and unstable form of capitalist diversity in Argentina, as well as potential alternatives to it

BARYON-BARYON INTERACTIONS IN LARGE N_C CHIRAL PERTURBATION THEORY

Interactions of two baryons are considered in large NCN_C chiral perturbation theory and compared to the interactions derived from the Skyrme model. Special attention is given to a torus-like configuration known to be present in the Skyrme model.Comment: 18 pages, REVTEX, 8 uuencoded PS figures appende

Automated tracking of the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus)

    Get PDF
The electronic, physical, biological and environmental factors involved in the automated remote tracking of the Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus) are identified. The current status of the manatee as an endangered species is provided. Brief descriptions of existing tracking and position locating systems are presented to identify the state of the art in these fields. An analysis of energy media is conducted to identify those with the highest probability of success for this application. Logistic questions such as the means of attachment and position of any equipment to be placed on the manatee are also investigated. Power sources and manateeborne electronics encapsulation techniques are studied and the results of a compter generated DF network analysis are summarized

Studies of effects on optical components and sensors: LDEF experiments AO-147 (ERB components) and S-0014 (APEX)

    Get PDF
Some additional results of testing of optical filters and window materials and thermopile sensors of the two experiments are included. The Advanced Photovoltaic Experiment (APEX) interference filters exhibited much greater degradation in space than the ERB filters. The adhesion of the Indium washers to the APEX interference filters is reported

Measurement of the half-life of 198Au in a non-metal: High-precision measurement shows no host-material dependence

    Get PDF
We have measured the half-life of the beta decay of 198Au to be 2.6948(9) d, with the nuclide sited in an insulating environment. Comparing this result with the half-life we measured previously with a metallic environment, we find the half-lives in both environments to be the same within 0.04%, thus contradicting a prediction that screening from a "plasma" of quasi-free electrons in a metal increases the half-life by as much as 7%

Technology requirements for future Earth-to-geosynchronous orbit transportation systems. Volume 1: Executive summary

    Get PDF
Technologies including accelerated technology that are critical to performance and/or provide cost advantages for future space transportation systems are identified. Mission models are scoped and include priority missions, and cargo missions. Summary data, providing primary design concepts and features, are given for the SSTO, HLLV, POTV, and LCOTV vehicles. Significant system costs and total system costs in terms of life cycle costs in both discounted and undiscounted dollars are summarized for each of the vehicles
